So today was Jah's first day of school...
Although morning's wake up had us all groggy, we snapped out of it and started our day. Yesterday I did a run through with Jah to show how the first day would be. "The first thing they're going to ask you when you show up to class is 'Hello, what's your name?'" She looked around as if I wasn't speaking to her. So, I asked again. "What's your name?" She wouldn't say anything and continued playing school.
After nap and our math session, I asked her again, "So, what's your name?" and again I got nothing. Speaking with Jah leading is a past time of mine. Although at times her voice gets aggravating it is a joy to know she's here. I did my hardest not to cry when she went away this morning, but the tears still weld up in my eyes.
The staff were friendly, but late we didn't get her into class until 30mins after her proposed time. Nice small class taught by a black man and white woman (diversity at its best Thank Goodness). As I signed her in and asked questions her female teacher did just what I said she would. She asked Jah, "And what's your name?" My girl bust out and said "My name is Jos'Lyn S'nevaeh-Promise McCallister!" and you could hear the class and parents "ooo and mmmmhhhmmin" as I sat there crying inside warm sayin' that's my baby! Her brother hugged me and said "You did it ma!"
Next thing I know the teacher says "Ok, go and put your book bag in your cubby." Now I know I we taught her her name and how to say it but I wasn't so sure about how she knew how to write it, but she did because she put her bag in the correct cubby with "Jos'Lyn" on it. I cried even more knowing that my daughter knew more than I thought she did. And now she too is leaving me...sniff sniff
